Learn about the flag of Sri Lanka

Below the lion, there is a curving scroll in yellow with the national motto inscribed in Sinhala. The motto, "නියෝජ්‍ය සමඟ පුත්‍රයෙක්" (pronounced "Niyojitha Subha Lakshita Deshaya"), translates to "The land of the blessed with a disciplined mind." It reflects the aspirations of Sri Lankans for a prosperous and harmonious nation guided by wisdom, discipline, and righteousness.
